White

White is the canvas of possibility, where silence speaks and every shade of thought finds its voice.

White is a colour that appears simple yet possesses many layers. Often regarded as “neutral”, this perception does not do the colour justice. White is far from empty; it represents possibilities, a beginning that has yet to choose a direction but is full of potential.

White stands for clarity. It allows you to sense where you need space and where you want to breathe. It invites pause and reflection, free from judgement. Many people experience white as a mental cleanse, where the inner noise is momentarily silenced. However, this clarity can also be confronting. White hides nothing; it reveals what you might prefer to bury. It is precisely this quality that makes it so powerful.

White embodies purity and simplicity; not as a perfect image, but as a return to essence. What remains when you peel away all the layers? What is your truth, free from external noise? White demands radical honesty. It is the colour of new beginnings, but also of taking responsibility for what you will write on that clean slate.

White is more than calmness and light; it also offers protection. It creates a dome of tranquillity that you can build around yourself when life feels overwhelming. White establishes a gentle distance, not to repel, but to maintain perspective and peace. It forms a soft buffer between you and external stimuli.

What I personally find beautiful about white is its reflective quality. It absorbs nothing but bounces back. This makes it feel honest and transparent. In colour psychology, white is seen as a colour of order, clarity and new ideas. It allows creativity to flourish because it does not impose or dictate, but empowers you to take the lead.

White can be minimalist and sleek, yet soft and peaceful. It lacks loud energy and this is precisely what makes it powerful. A touch of white can do wonders: it opens windows in your mind, allowing fresh air to flow in. It enhances other colours but can stand alone as a symbol of renewal and inner peace.

Of all the colours, white may be the most inviting. It demands nothing yet offers everything: silence, space, balance and focus. This is why it serves as such a strong catalyst for creativity. White is a canvas waiting for your story. What will you choose to paint on it?

Therefore, I ask you to engage in a small exercise. Grab a sheet of white paper (A5, A4, or A3, whatever works for you), a cup of herbal tea or something else that feels light, your favourite pen or pencil and some colour pencils or markers. It may sound simple, but this is the power of white: it allows you to sink into yourself without distraction.

Exercise: place the tip of your pen or pencil on a random spot on the paper and begin drawing abstract shapes from there, without lifting it. These could be lines, waves, circles or other forms. Turn off your mind and let your hand move. Stop when it feels complete to you and then begin colouring.

Let white guide you to what is possible, even before it takes shape.
